Manchester and London based designer Cathy Jordan creates original, affordable and wearable jewellery under the label Badrock
(the surname of her rebellious and creative great-grandma).
After running away to London from the North in 1984, to experience the hedonism of the club and fashion scene of the time,
Cathy designed accessories for Vivienne Westwood, Jasper Conran, Mary Quant and others, as half of the label Atelier.
Their jewellery and hats have been featured in 2 major exhibitions at the Victoria & Albert Museum;
New Contemporaries (1992) and Club to Catwalk - 80’s Fashion (2013).
A lifetime’s love of space travel, eclectic music, pop art and fairground art have provided inspiration for Cathy’s work.
After leaving London in 1995, she moved back up North to work with graphic artists DesignStorm,
who specialised in promoting art galleries, cinemas and music labels.
A return to jewellery in 2012 was prompted by the discovery, on moving house, of a box of her early designs
and a renewed cultural interest in 80’s design.
Cathy had a retrospective exhibition of her work at Gallery Oldham in 2013 and was featured in Hull’s Museum of Club Culture in 2014.
Since then, she has been busy fulfilling commissions and selling online, in galleries and at music festivals.
Cathy’s music-based designs have been on sale at Stockport museum, as part of the iconic Strawberry Studios exhibition.
